When choosing a dog its super important to consider which breed of dog will fit your lifestyle, we have put together info packs on some of the breeds we typically have in the rescue to help you decided what breed may fit your lifestyle best.
Patterdale Terrier

The Patterdale terrier, originally bred from the old English terrier and the Northumberland pit terrier, in Patterdale lake district. Classed as more of a type than abreed they were bred to travel large distances in the rocky fells around the lake district hunting foxes that posed a threat to farmers livestock and the now illegal badger baiting. Developed to withstand the harsh environment in the north of england, they are a tough, active, bold, over confident little terrier with a high prey drive and a ton of energy.
Border Terrier

The Border Terrier originating from the area of the anglo scottish borders, sharing ancestry with the dandie dinmont terrier and the bedlington terrier. These Hardy little dogs were originally bred to crawl in the burrows of foxes and chase them out for the hunters, they were used in the traditional border hunts running with the horses and foxhounds, they have also been used to hunt other rodents.
Lakeland Terrier

The Lakeland Terrier, taking its name from its place of origin, lake district. Known for being fiercely independent, confident and energetic, they are designed to cover large areas very quickly with little effort independantly hunting foxes in the mountainous, rocky terrain.
Jack russel

The Jack Russell originating from north Devon and can be traced back to the now extinct english white terrier. They are a breed with high stamina and a body built to go underground after foxes and badgers whilst having a tempered aggressiveness to chase without harming the quarry. after WW2 the use for hunting dogs declined and the jack russell were increasingly used as companion dogs . They are an intelligent, athletic, vocal little dog.
Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkshire Terrier, also known as a Yorkie are among the smallest of the terriers, originally bred by miners in yorkshire to hunt vermin. Although small they are still a typical energetic terrier, bred for ratting they are an energetic, confident, feisty little dog
Caucasian Shepard

The Caucasian Shepard or Caucasian Ovcharka is a giant breed livestock guardian dog native to the caucasus region. for centuries these dogs have served shepards as livestock guardians, defending sheep from predators such as wolves, coyotes and human thieves and even used as bear hunting dogs. Weighing up to 80kg these dogs are bred for their strength, confidence and independant thinking. They are naturally suspicious of those not in their immediate circle of friends and typically live solo in amongst the livestock they protect.
